Northeast Community College and Wayne State College recently decided to join efforts and expand their offerings in northeast Nebraska. At a time when the region is experiencing strong economic growth, the two schools decided to construct a college campus in South Sioux City. Along with the city of South Sioux City, the colleges are working to have the college open for classes in 2010. Olsson Associates has served as a subcontractor to provide environmental solutions and help with project planning.
Rio Vista Park

Phoenix, Arizona

The city of Peoria was looking for its first community park to meet the needs of the growing residences. The park was to be situated in a prominent area in central Peoria between the busy Agua Fria Freeway and the New River Channel. Olsson Associates was selected to design and implement a park master plan that fully encompassed the needs of the community.
UNMC Wittson Hall HVAC

Omaha, Nebraska

Olsson Associates adapted a design to renovate the HVAC systems in the McGoogan Library within Wittson Hall, located on the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus. The design reused substantial portions of the duct to save cost, reduce waste, and minimize disruption during construction. The design also employed new strategies to greatly increase the energy efficiency of the overall system.
Ralph M. Riggs Administration Build

Springfield, Missouri

Evangel University selected the team of Sapp Design Associates and Olsson Associates to complete the design of its new Ralph M. Riggs Administration building.

Meritage Homes was looking for planning and engineering solutions to develop an 835-acre master planned community in Casa Grande, Arizona. The community needed to offer a variety of features to attract both active adults and traditional families.
Baton Rouge Southern Rail Yard

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Olsson Associates was hired by WATCO Companies to provide a full range of services for a rail yard project in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from survey to design to final construction observation services. The overall project involves an approximately $20 million expansion of the existing rail yard facility, which is located on the northwest side of Baton Rouge.
Hickory Hills Middle School

Springfield, Missouri

Springfield, Missouri was in need of an efficient, highly compatible school facility for the community. Olsson Associates is currently designing the mechanical and electrical systems for the new Hickory Hills Middle School for Springfield Public Schools.
Walnut Creek Reservoir

Sarpy County, Nebraska

Olsson Associates conducted a feasibility study to assess the potential for the development of a flood control structure and related recreational facilities at Walnut Creek. It is located in Sarpy County, just southwest of the City of Papillion in the west branch of the Papillion Creek Watershed.
Cunningham Lake

Omaha, Nebraska

The City of Omaha needed to improve one of its lake recreation areas. Cunningham Lake has seen a buildup of reservoir sedimentation, diminished water quality, and a degradation of fish habitat due to surrounding land developments. The city selected Olsson Associates to lead the services for the overlay and reestablishment of the endangered Cunningham Lake, which is a popular gathering point for both visitors and residents.
North Platte Regional Airport

North Platte, Nebraska

In 2009, Olsson designed a new parallel Taxiway D to Runway 17/35. Poor soil conditions required subgrade stabilization with fly ash, crushed concrete, and geotextile fabric. Olsson was able to justify 10-inch concrete pavement to match the new apron pavement.
Tecumseh Airport

Tecumseh, Nebraska

Olsson Associates has been providing services to the Tecumseh Airport Authority for more than 30 years, starting with the initial airport construction in 1971. Olsson has successfully completed multiple projects at the airport, which included planning, design, and construction services.
Julian Wash Linear Park

Tucson, Arizona

In the Sonoran Desert, water is an essential part of everyday business. With a hot and arid climate, no available water reservoirs, and significant aquifer drawdown, the City of Tucson has taken strong measures to conserve and reuse water.
Prasada Development

Surprise, Arizona

The Prasada project is a large-scale commercial and mixed-use development located in Surprise, Arizona at the base of the White Tank Mountains. The Prasada project encompasses three sections of land, approximately 1,920 acres, and includes 6 ½ miles of public infrastructure roadways.
Lawrence Route and Schedule Design

Lawrence, KS

The City of Lawrence, home to two dynamic transit systems, hired Olsson to prepare a route and schedule design to coordinate its transportation plan. The University of Kansas’ “KU On Wheels” has transported students to class from the residential areas surrounding the campus since the 1970s. The City Transit system, “The T,” has provided residents with citywide transportation options since 2001.
McCain Entry Drive

Manhattan, Kansas

Kansas State University needed to update an entry drive and plaza to create a new and vibrant welcoming “front door” to the McCain Auditorium, a highly visible and important facility on its campus. However, the project would need to be completed before the start of the 2008 school year—a challenge that created a tight timeline for design and construction.
Overland Park Soccer Complex

Overland Park, Kansas

The new Overland Park Soccer Complex consists of 12 lighted, regulation-size, synthetic-turf fields, three cafes, and a 16,000-square-foot field house. The fields are broken into three pods with a stream corridor that splits the pods.
Norris Viaduct

Cheyenne, Wyoming

The Norris Viaduct connecting south and north Cheyenne over the Union Pacific Railroad was built in 1952 and in 1998 had deteriorated to the point that it needed to be replaced. A study conducted in 1998 set the stage for the relocation and replacement of the structure along with the approach roadways to the viaduct.

Olsson Associates was a member of a design-build team that nearly doubled the size of the Edith Abbott Memorial Library in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Three-Mile Trail

The Three-Mile Creek Trail, which opened in October 2009, is a $2.24 million bike/pedestrian path that stretches from the Missouri River at Leavenworth Landing Park to Haymarket Square located at 7th Street in Leavenworth.

Renewable Energy/Food Project

The City of Springfield and City Utilities of Springfield jointly owns and operates a 2.3 MW electric generation station fueled by methane gas from the city's Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill. Recently, the city was awarded a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) under "Energize Missouri Renewable Energy Study Sub-grant" program to investigate the potential for increasing efficiency and total quality of renewable energy available by using waste heat released from the generating station for beneficial use by heating a public/private commercial greenhouse.

Doling Park Channel Bioengineering

Doling Park has a rich history and some of the elements of the historic park have deteriorated over time. The existing shoreline erosion and poor water quality in the pond are major significant problems. The outlet structure is aging and beginning to fail. There are cracks and seeps in the perimeter walls of the pond that prevents it from staying full during winter months.

RED Development was looking for design and construction solutions for its newest land development project in Kansas City, Kansas. The project came out of the Unified Government's desire to develop a new activity center, which it intended to become a major retail and entertainment district.
Edina Garden Park Trail

Edina, Minnesota

Olsson Associates is providing bituminous bicycle and pedestrian trail planning and design services to the City of Edina Park and Recreation Department. The project includes conceptual plans, public involvement, design and construction documents, and construction administration, as well as a stormwater pollution prevention plan for the entire site. The design team is working closely with city staff to ensure the process is both efficient and effective.
Murdock Phyto-remediation

Murdock, Nebraska

When the groundwater aquifer beneath Murdock, Nebraska was found to be contaminated by carbon tetrachloride (a carcinogenic and liver-damaging compound), the local drinking water wells were shut down and the village was connected to a rural water district. However, the contaminated groundwater was entering a local stream, and it was necessary to clean the surface water. Holmes Lake Restoration

Lincoln, Nebraska

After 40 years of agricultural use and urban development, Holmes Lake was experiencing a buildup of sediment, pollutants, and organic deposits. As a result, the lake's depth was reduced, the water quality and aesthetics were deteriorated, and its recreational use was impaired. Olsson Associates designed the technical and biological components of the rehabilitation of Holmes Lake.
Johnson Lake Sanitary Improvements

Johnson Lake, Nebraska

Olsson Associates led the team responsible for conducting the sanitary sewer and wastewater treatment system study. The team collected data, analyzed the alternative facilities, and made calculations to determine the Johnson Lake area's current and future needs, with respect to the wastewater collection and treatment facilities.
Antelope Valley

Lincoln, Nebraska

The City of Lincoln, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District, and the University of Nebraska have joined forces to launch the Antelope Valley Revitalization Project. The $275 million project extends along Antelope Creek from the downtown area north to Salt Creek. The three major elements of the project are community revitalization, flood control, and transportation issues.
Shawnee Mission Lake

Shawnee, Kansas

Olsson Associates was selected to develop a plan for improvements that includes the construction of a four-acre wetland complex in the southeast cove. It will feature interpretive elements, such as a canoe trail and boardwalks through the wetlands; pedestrian trails and overlooks with interpretive signage surrounding the wetlands; wildlife viewing blinds; and a potential prairie grass restoration area that blends with the park's surrounding recreational elements.
Aurora West Development

Aurora, Nebraska

Olsson Associates formed a team of geotechnical, environmental, bridge design, transportation, and water resources experts from across the firm to design one of Nebraska's largest ethanol production facilities for the Aurora Cooperative.
