Remembering Olsson employees Dan Nichols and Jerry Kamtz

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Lisa Sedivy, Communications

We’ve appreciated the support we’ve received from so many as we grieve our co-workers and friends. Dan Nichols was killed May 25 in the massive mudslide in Mesa County, Colorado. Dan was an environmental technician in our Grand Junction, Colorado, office. We also lost Jerry Kamtz, the long-time leader of our Lincoln, Nebraska, Survey team, who passed away June 11. Jerry spent more than 40 years as part of the Olsson Associates family.

Thank you for your kindness and compassion to the families of Dan and Jerry—and, by extension, to all of us at Olsson.

Since we have received many requests, following is information about their memorials.

Dan Nichols
Funds were created for the three men lost in the mudslide: Wes Hawkins, 46, Dan Nichols, 24, and Dan's father, Clancy Nichols, 51. Funds have been set up for the families of the three victims. Checks can be made out to the "Nichols Family" or the "Hawkins Family" and sent to the Grand Valley Bank, P.O. Box 130, Collbran, Colorado, 81624.

Dan’s family asked that our employee memorials be directed to a fund they are establishing at the University of Wyoming for a geological camp that Dan attended. You are welcome to contribute to this fund, if so desired. You can send your check to the University of Wyoming, Dept. of Geology and Geophysics, c/o Dr. Erin Campbell-Stone, Dept 3006, Daniel Nichols Memorial Fund, 1000 E University Avenue, Laramie, Wyoming 82071-2000.

A fund is being established at Southeast Community College to create an endowment in Jerry’s name for survey scholarships on the Milford, Nebraska, campus. Checks may be made out to the Southeast Community College Foundation at 301 S. 68th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68510. Please specify that the gift is for the Jerry Kamtz Surveying Scholarship.
