The Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) mission includes the following: connecting water professionals, enriching their expertise, and increasing awareness about the impact and value of water. It’s
a not-for-profit technical and educational world-wide organization. The WEF has been around since 1928, protecting public health and the environment. It has 75 affiliated member associates and 33,000 individual members. One of those members is Jim Condon. Jim is a senior engineer in Olsson’s Water and Wastewater practice and he recently made contributions to an important publication provided by the WEF.
The Operation of Water Resource Recovery Facilities, Manual of Practice No. 11, Seventh Edition delivers state-of-the-art coverage in the operation, management, and maintenance of water resource recovery facilities formerly known as wastewater treatment plants. Jim wrote Chapters 23 and 29 in the manual.
“This is a manual to give to operators at water resource recovery facilities that will help them run their equipment properly and efficiently,” Jim said. “Everything you need to know to run a treatment plant is in this book.”
Chapter 23 is about natural biological processes such as lagoons. In Chapter 29, the information centers around solids thickening. Solids thickening is a process used to increase the solids content of sludge.
Jim is proud of his contribution to the manual. He said the WEF asked for volunteers to provide and update the content.
As a contributing author, Jim has received a complimentary copy of the manual. He is donating his signed copy to Olsson’s Lincoln Water and Wastewater Practice Library.
“I went through everything and updated information. There was information in the previous manual that was no longer needed in the current one. It’s used all over the world, and it’s something not many people can say they’ve done.”
The manual can be purchased on the WEF website. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy, click here. Jim also appears in a WEF video about the new manual. To watch it, click here.
